Education
Professor Jon’s impressive academic background spans globally renowned institutions. He earned his Ph.D. in Law from the University of Oxford and further obtained a Master of Laws from Peking University Law School and a Juris Master from Tsinghua University Law School. He also holds both a Bachelor of Law (summa cum laude) and a Master of Law from Seoul National University, as well as a Juris Doctor from Korea University Law School (summa cum laude).
Professional Appointments
WooJung Jon is an Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Future Strategy, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), where he leads pioneering research on artificial intelligence governance, intellectual property issues related to digital transformation, and digital assets.
Research Areas
Professor Jon’s scholarly work has significantly deepened our understanding of how emerging technologies intersect with legal frameworks. His publications in top-tier journals, including Nature and Nature Electronics, address critical issues, such as the regulatory challenges arising from the evolving dynamics of artificial intelligence. His research not only informs academic discourse but also underpins policy development, offering innovative insights for adapting law to rapidly evolving technological landscapes.
Professor Jon has played an active role in shaping national policy. As an Expert Member of the Presidential Council on Intellectual Property of South Korea, he advises on balancing the protection of intellectual property rights with the promotion of technological innovation. His leadership in government-funded projects further underscores his commitment to impactful research. Notably, he served as Principal Investigator for the “Evaluation Model for Patent Infringement Damage Compensation” project (2024), commissioned by the Korea Invention Promotion Association and the Korean Intellectual Property Office, and for “A Study on the Estimation of Damages due to Technology Leakage” (2023) commissioned by the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office of South Korea.
