Education

Mai Nguyen Dung (Mike) is a PhD student in Law, Commerce and Technology at the Yong Pung How School of Law, Singapore Management University (SMU), under the supervision of Associate Professor Jason Grant Allen. In 2020, he obtained an LL.M. in Law and Economics from Utrecht University (the Netherlands). Previously, he earned his LL.B. as the valedictorian of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Law.

Professional Appointments

Prior to joining SMU, Mike served as a Lecturer at the School of Law, College of Economics, Law and Government, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) from 2020 to 2025. He taught Business Law, Law and the Digital Economy, Competition Law, and Legislative Drafting.

He also participated in training and policy advisory projects on innovation and digital transformation in the public sector, including the USAID Strengthening Provincial Capacity Project. In addition to his teaching and research activities, he is a regular columnist on legal and technology policy issues for Tia Sang Magazine and The Saigon Times in Vietnam.

Research Areas

Mike's research lies at the intersection of law, technology, and governance. His primary research interests include AI regulation, regulatory theory, digital governance, competition law in digital markets, digital inclusion, and regulatory approaches to emerging technologies.

His current doctoral research examines how AI can be governed through theory-informed regulatory and institutional design frameworks to promote trustworthiness, accountability, digital inclusion, and the sustainable development of AI ecosystems.
