Professional Appointments
Jef Ausloos is an Assistant Professor at the University of Amsterdam's Institute for Information Law. His work centres around different information law issues - and in particular data rights, transparency, and governance of digital infrastructures - and the broader political economy in which they operate.
Ausloos holds a number of positions as fellow and academic advisor, to various academic institutions, public bodies and NGO’s. His contributions to the field of information law are further highlighted by his involvement in various editorial boards and committees, such as the International Data Privacy Law Journal and the Data Protection Law Scholars Network.
Research Areas
Jef Ausloos' work is characterized by a focus on the critical examination of technology governance and its societal implications across and beyond Western hegemony. His research examines methods for rendering digital infrastructures transparent, such as data donations and other innovative approaches to data access. Apart from teaching a course on 'Critical Perspectives on AI Governance', Ausloos also explores the material dimensions of AI value chains, including the role of labour, as well as chip security within globalized AI production. In doing so, Ausloos tries to position legal issues within a broader geopolitical context. His work has won several prizes and has influenced EU policy developments relating to data protection and data access.
