Education
Corinne Tan holds a PhD and LLM from Melbourne Law School, and an LLB (Hons) from the National University of Singapore. She has been called to the Singapore Bar.
Professional Appointments
Corinne is a Research Affiliate at the SMU Centre for Digital Law (CDL). She was previously an Academic Fellow at NUS Law’s Centre for Technology, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence & the Law (TRAIL). Prior to that, she was an Assistant Professor at Nanyang Technological University for five years and an academic at Melbourne Law School for many years. Before entering academia, Corinne practiced as a corporate lawyer and in-house legal counsel in Singapore. She has served as Company Secretary for Auscam Freedom Project, a not-for-profit anti-trafficking organisation, and is currently volunteering with Pro Bono Sg.
Research Areas
Corinne’s research interests lie at the intersection of law and technology, with a focus on social media governance, online content moderation and digital copyright. In the recent years, she has written on the regulation of disinformation on social media platforms, rights in non-fungible tokens (NFTs), copyright and accessibility for persons with print disabilities, blockchains, as well as copyright on social media.
Other Information
Corinne is the co-author of Addressing Misinformation and Disinformation (Cambridge University Press, 2026) and the author of the monograph Regulating Content on Social Media (UCL Press, 2018). Her recent research has been published in leading international journals, including the International Journal of Law and Information Technology, the Computer Law & Security Review and the International Review of Intellectual Property and Competition Law. She has also written for The Straits Times.
