SMU Centre for Digital Law (CDL) was delighted to co-organise the Workshop on Comparative Governance for Health Data Sharing with The University of Queensland (UQ), bringing together researchers and experts for a day of interdisciplinary dialogue on the evolving governance challenges surrounding health data.

The workshop opened with welcome remarks and an overview by Assoc Prof Jason Grant Allen (Director, CDL) followed by Assoc Prof Bernadette Richards (UQ Medical School), who introduced the overarching vision of the collaborative project. Prof Jason Pole and Dr Lee Woods (Queensland Digital Health Centre, UQ Medical School) presented the work of the Queensland Digital Health Centre, setting the stage for the day’s discussions.

Discussions examined the role of social licence and public trust in shaping responsible data use; the need for enabling and adaptive governance frameworks that balance innovation with accountability; the importance of socio-technical approaches that integrate legal, institutional, and technological considerations; and the growing significance of workforce readiness and digital capability in supporting healthcare transformation.

We are grateful to colleagues from The University of Queensland—Bernadette Richards, Jason Pole, Lee Woods, Rebekah Eden, and Sebastiano Barbieri—and to all participants, including Weiyang Cheong, Gary Chan Kok Yew, Genevieve Ng, Wilson Wen Bin Goh, Barry Solaiman, Catherine Chong, Francis Lim, Siao-Wei Chia, Lee Min Hun, Crystal Liu, and Liu Huimei, whose thoughtful contributions made this workshop a meaningful platform for advancing dialogue on some of the most pressing issues in digital health and healthcare governance.
