We were delighted to host Prof. Martin Ebers from University of Tartu for a research seminar titled Regulating Artificial Intelligence: Lessons from the EU’s AI Act at Singapore Management University.
The recently adopted Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) of the European Union (EU) claims to be based on a risk-based approach to avoid over-regulation. During the seminar, Prof. Ebers argued that while risk-based regulation is the right approach for governing AI, some key provisions of the AI Act do not truly adhere to this principle, contrary to the claims of the European Commission and the co-legislators. Against this backdrop, his presentation analysed the lessons that the AI Act can teach lawmakers globally in regulating AI.
The seminar concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where participants explored thought-provoking questions on the challenges and opportunities in AI regulation. We thank Prof. Ebers for sharing his invaluable insights on the lessons from the EU's AI Act and its implications for global AI governance.
