SMU CDL was pleased to co-host the IMDA-SMU Workshop on AI Chatbots for Companionship with Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA)’s BizTech Group at the SMU Yong Pung How School of Law.
The workshop brought together stakeholders from across research, technology and healthcare related professional fields to discuss how the responsible development and deployment of AI chatbot systems can better safeguard users, particularly as these tools become increasingly used in everyday digital interactions.
The session opened with remarks by SMU Prof Lim Sun Sun, followed by a research overview by Dr Liao Huanyue from IMDA. Participants then took part in a structured workshop exercise and facilitated discussion focused on the technical assessment of AI chatbot responses, the identification of potential risks, and the development of more robust safety assessments.
As AI systems continue to evolve, cross-sector dialogue remains important in helping to ensure that innovation is supported by appropriate safeguards, robust technical assessments, and responsible governance. We are grateful to IMDA for convening key stakeholders to kickstart this important conversation, and to all participants for contributing their insights to the workshop.
