Tencent Research Institute and the SMU Centre for Digital Law (CDL) co-organised the Generative AI in Progress: Application, Governance, and Societal Impact Symposium at the SMU Yong Pung How School of Law, hosted by Ms. Peng Huijuan.
The event opened with welcome remarks by Mr. Guo Kaitian, Senior Vice President of Tencent Group. This was followed by an enlightening keynote speech by Professor Mohan Kankanhalli, Provost’s Chair Professor of Computer Science and Director of the NUS AI Institute, who offered valuable insights into the issues and opportunities presented by generative AI. Mr. Tianchi Liu, Senior Researcher at Tencent, delivered an insightful presentation titled "Synthetic Voices in the GenAI Era: Creation and Defense”.
A dynamic panel discussion, moderated by Ms. Xiaohui Yuan, Senior Expert and Director of Innovation Research Center at Tencent Research Institute, explored emerging industry applications of generative AI and featured a distinguished line-up of speakers:

➣ Mr. Bman Lee, Co-founder, ABCDE Venture Capital
➣ Mr. Jianfeng Lu, Chairman and Co-founder, WIZ.AI
The session concluded with closing remarks by Mr. Jason Si, Dean of the Tencent Research Institute.
Professor Simon Chesterman, David Marshall Professor of Law and Vice Provost (Educational Innovation), National University of Singapore, opened the second half of the Symposium with a compelling keynote titled "The Tragedy of AI Governance". This was followed by an engaging presentation by Ms. Cheryl Seah, Director at Drew & Napier LLC and Industry Fellow at CDL, who offered practical insights in her talk, "Generative AI: Perspectives from Practice".
The final panel, moderated by Associate Professor Han-Wei Liu, Deputy Director of CDL, discussed the governance and societal impact of generative AI and featured esteemed leaders:

The Symposium concluded with closing remarks by Assoc Prof Liu.
