The Tech for Good Institute (TFGI) and the SMU Centre for Digital Law (CDL) were pleased to co-organise a Roundtable Discussion on "Fit-for-Purpose Governance in the Innovation Age: Spotlight on Singapore". The session brought together government representatives, academics, and industry professionals to explore Singapore’s efforts in crafting adaptive regulatory frameworks that support emerging technologies while safeguarding society. Discussions also examined how best to design and implement tech and digital policies that unlock innovative business models in Southeast Asia’s rapidly evolving digital economy.

The opening remarks were delivered by Dr. Ming Tan, Senior Fellow and Founding Executive Director of TFGI, and Prof Sun Sun Lim, Vice President (Partnerships and Engagement) at SMU and CDL Affiliated Faculty. This was followed by a research sharing session on tech governance in Southeast Asia that featured presentations by Keith Detros, TFGI Programme Manager, and Lim How Khang, SMU Assistant Professor of Law and Computer Science (Practice), who also co-moderated the roundtable discussion.

We are grateful to all participants for their invaluable perspectives on the intersection of technology, strategic policy, and regulatory innovation in Singapore’s digital landscape. We look forward to continuing these meaningful exchanges that bring together diverse voices across sectors, including technology leaders such as Microsoft and Google.
