We were privileged to host the Empowering Businesses and Consumers in the Digital Age event, co-organized with the European Union Delegation to Singapore, at SMU Yong Pung How School of Law. Our Guest of Honour, Michael McGrath EU Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law, and Consumer Protection, delivered a compelling keynote speech on how to empower businesses and consumers in the digital age.
As the Jean Monnet Chair in EU-ASEAN Law and Relations, SMUYPHSL’s Prof. Pasha L. Hsieh delivered the opening remarks. Our SMU Centre for Digital Law Director, Assoc Prof. Jason Grant Allen, moderated a conversation with Commissioner McGrath, followed by a Q&A session with the audience, fostering a refreshing exchange of views. We gained valuable insights into EU and Singapore’s policies and strategies in building a fair, innovative, and trustworthy digital ecosystem for businesses and consumers.
We thank Commissioner McGrath and his team for choosing Singapore for your first diplomatic visit and for joining us at SMU. We would also like to thank Ambassadors Iwona Piórko (EU), Dante Brandi (Italy), Tadeusz Chomicki (Poland), Darius Gaidys (Lithuania), Sarah McGrath (Ireland), Jakob Brix Tange (Denmark), and High Commissioner Azfar Mohamad Mustafar (Malaysia) for gracing the event.
A special thank you to colleagues at the European Union Delegation to Singapore, including Benoit Sauveroche, Justyna Lasik, and Deepika Shetty, for their invaluable support in making this event a success.
