We co-organised the Decentralised Finance and the Law Workshop: Probing The Financial Architecture of The Future with the SMU Centre for Commercial Law in Asia (CCLA). Held over two days, the workshop convened leading scholars, policymakers, and industry experts to examine the legal, regulatory, and institutional dimensions of Decentralised Finance (DeFi). Discussions explored how DeFi challenges existing financial frameworks and how law can evolve to support technological decentralisation while safeguarding financial stability, integrity, and inclusion.

Day 1 opened with remarks by CDL Director Jason Grant Allen, followed by keynote addresses from Paul Yuen (General Counsel, Monetary Authority of Singapore) and Chee Kin Lam (Managing Director & Head, Group Compliance, DBS Bank). The day also featured presentations by Jason Harris (University of Sydney), Rachel Phang (SMUYPHSL), Nydia Remolina (SMUYPHSL), Guangmian Kung (Kleros), Tony Song (UNSW), Daniel Liebau (ESSEC), Pier Mario Lupinu (University of Glasgow), and an insightful fireside chat with Tju Liang Chua (Drew & Napier).

Day 2 opened with a keynote by Raunak Mittal (Advisor, BIS Innovation Hub, Singapore Centre) on DeFi, Tokenisation, and the Future of Financial Market Infrastructures, followed by presentations from Giuliano Castellano (University of Hong Kong), Li-Ling Chng (RHT Law Asia), and Jason Grant Allen (SMUYPHSL) on the regulatory and policy challenges surrounding DeFi.

The workshop concluded with final reflections on forthcoming research and publications in this evolving field. We thank all speakers and participants for advancing dialogue on the future of decentralised finance and its implications for global financial governance.
